CAMSHAFTS
Camshaft is the heart of the piston four-stroke internal combustion engine.
The basis for a well-running engine is a suitable camshaft design, correct timing, selection of the optimal compression ratio and setting valve clearances.
These installation details are necessary to make the most of the camshaft and to preserve the valve mechanism service for life and must be determined by the camshaft designer.
We will design a new camshaft for you
You´ll always receive basic adjustment data to make the most of the camshaft´s potential and to preserve the valve mechanism service life:
→ optimal compression ratio,
→ cam timing (positioning),
→ valve clearances.
SERVICES
According to the engine power increase requirements we offer several stages of engine design modifications:
Fuel and spark advance
For the new camshaft, we´ll modify the control unit SW, or we´ll adapt the carburettor and the spark distributor characteristics
Complete engine design
We´ll prepare a complete engine engineering design on request (new cam profile, valve size, port size, compression ratio, intake and exhaust manifold)
The price for the services depends on the scope of work. You can find the approximate prices of selected basic services bellow:
Your own camshaft measurement and analysis + cam assembly instruction design - from 60 Eur
Your own camshaft measurement and analysis + camshaft reprofiling - from 100 Eur
New camshaft production - from 320 Eur
Project: original engine analysis + new engine design (new cam profile, valve size, port size, compression ratio, intake and exhaust manifold) - from 400 Eur
Control unit SW modification (“chiptuning”) - from 160 Eur
Ignition unit overhaul, including characteristic modification - from 25 Eur
Carburettor overhaul, including modification - from 25 Eur

FAQ
According to the engine characteristic requirements, we will design a suitable cams profile. The sportier and more powerful engine, the wider cam profile. As a rule, for engines for normal operation, the original camshaft can usually be modified by regrinding. For high powerful engines, a new camshaft must be produced, because there´s not “enough material” on the series cams to achieve the desired shape by regrinding.
We´ll design the camshaft suitable to your engine, taking into account the required power increase. To achieve the desired effect, the camshaft must be positioned correctly during assembly. A necessary part of the installation of a new camshaft is also the adjustment of the compression ratio. To ensure smooth operation and a long service life, the valve clearances must be set correctly (if there is a mechanical setting). You will receive all these assembly instructions from us together with the camshaft. It is necessary to pay attention to their observance.
In the optimal case, it is also suitable to adjust the fuel supply and the spark advance (for petrol engines) for the modified camshaft. It´s not necessary to modify control unit SW for light travel modifications. The control unit can adapt itself to some extent and can adjusts the fuel supply to achieve the required fuel/air ratio. For sport engines, where the characteristics are already changing significantly, we also recommend the control unit SW modification. For older carburettor engines, we strongly recommend you to send us the carburettor and distributor together with the camshaft for modification.
We´ll measure your camshaft on a special mechanical-optical device with an accuracy of 0.00001 mm. We will analyse measured data and qualify if the given camshaft is suitable for your engine. If so, we will design the optimal timing (positioning), compression ratio and valve clearances for your camshaft.
If a camshaft worked perfectly in one engine, it doesn´t mean that the same camshaft will work on your engine as well. Not only cam lift and duration are important, but also the profile shape. And that’s why it´s necessary to design custom cams for each engine.
EQUIPMENT
Mechanical-optical device for cam´s measuring
The first necessary step in designing a new camshaft is to analyse the serial camshaft. Our company owns a special mechanical-optical machine Carl Zeiss Jena designed to measure the cams profile with an accuracy of 0.00001 mm. Thanks to this, we can analyse the cylinder filling process in a series engine and we can design the new cams profile to achieve the required engine characteristic.
SW and HW equipment for Chiptuning
For modifications of control units (so-called chiptuning), reliable, quality software and hardware equipment is necessary. We use the KESSv2 Master flasher from the Italian company Alientech to read / write memory from / to the engine control unit (ECU). We use WinOLS Software from the German company EVC for data editing.
We also offer diagnostics of VW cars through the use of a VAG-COM diagnostic system.
Device for measuring ignition units
We offer overhaul and modification of historic engines spark distributors.
This work includes distributor disassembly, cleaning and lubrication, clearances setting and centrifugal regulation curve adjustment. Using a special device, we can check the spark quality and fine-tune the centrifugal regulation (or fine-tune the vacuum control if connected).
